WASHINGTON, D.C., July 26, 2016  - The Alzheimer's Impact Movement (AIM) presented Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin and Governor Jack Markell of Delaware with the 2016 AIM Trailblazer Award. The Governors each earned the award in recognition of their leadership to end the Alzheimer's crisis and improve care and support services for those living with the disease and their family.

During Governor Walker's administration, he has worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for all Wisconsin citizens dealing with the burden of Alzheimer's disease and their families. Today, more than 110,000 Wisconsinites are living with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder. Governor Walker has made Alzheimer's a state priority, and has enhanced Wisconsin's dementia-capability.

"Gov. Walker was selected for this award in recognition of his leadership in supporting the Wisconsin State Alzheimer's Plan and his efforts to ensure that Wisconsin is a dementia friendly state," said Robert Egge, AIM Executive Director.

AIM is honoring Governor Markell in recognition of his leadership in support of the development and implementation of the Delaware State Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders. His administration has been steadfast in its efforts to improve the quality of life for all Delawareans, including those dealing with the burden of Alzheimer's disease.

"On behalf of the more than 26,000 Delawareans living with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, and their caregivers, we are truly grateful for Gov. Markell's commitment to making Alzheimer's disease a state priority, and dedication to enhancing Delaware's dementia-capability," said Egge.

"Governor Walker and Governor Markell's engagement on Alzheimer's disease has been invaluable," said Egge. "We are thankful for their help and contributions as we work towards a world without Alzheimer's and to provide support for those who are struggling with the disease."

Gov. Walker was presented the award at the Wisconsin Delegation Breakfast during the GOP Convention in Cleveland. He was presented the award by fellow Alzheimer's champion, Wisconsin state Senator Alberta Darling. Gov. Markell will be presented his award in Philadelphia during the Democratic National Convention by Alzheimer's advocate and former Gov. Markell staff member, Cathy Rossi.
